Rose & Womble Celebrates National Book Lovers Day

Today is National Book Lovers Day – a day designed to enjoy the written word and celebrate the joy of reading.  A real estate company talking about books on its blog probably seems a bit nuts – but our company is full of readers! Voracious, always looking for something awesome to read, readers.  And what in life is better than sitting at home, curled up with an amazing book?  Okay, maybe sitting on a beach with an amazing book, but no matter the location any time spent reading is time well spent.

After all, readers are often leaders.  Look at our New Homes and Rose & Womble Enterprises President, Van Rose, who often has a reading list so deep you wonder if he’ll ever finish.  Or our Resale Division President, Ron Foresta, who constantly is reading and learning about communications and business.

When you ask a person what his favorite book is it opens up a whole world of discovery about that person – and what that reader truly loves in life.  Sometimes the answers surprise us. When we asked our agents and employees we were rewarded with literary classics, a cookbook, and even stories from childhood.  Some of the answers were a series of books – the ones whose characters feel like family.

Still not convinced? Lets look at some facts:  reading can help prevent Alzheimer’s, can make you smarter, and is still the cheapest form of entertainment.  Books are just simply one of life’s greatest pleasures – and having the right space to enjoy them certainly helps.  This is where reading and real estate meet because built-in shelves for books are still popular among home buyers.  Shelves in bookstores are still devoted to DIY or decorating books.  And many popular books have house or home in the title:

  • Little House of the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder
  • The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne
  • A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen
  • A Painted House by John Grisham
  • A Home at the End of the World by Michael Cunningham

There were over 175 book titles on Goodreads that home or house in the title – books and houses are linked throughout literature so why shouldn’t Rose & Womble celebrate the day?

To help celebrate the day, we’ve gone to our group of REALTORS®, employees, leadership team, and some of our social media followers to find out what are some of their favorite books and why.  We got some surprising answers – sure we got business books, the Bible, but many picked classics or new books. Some sent us examples from childhood or a favorite English class in high school.   Throughout the day we’re celebrating books – and we’re inviting you to join in the conversation. On all our social media channels we’ll be posting our favorite books – and book features.
