Back to School Means Giving Back

Our Chesapeake and Holland Road Offices Collected School Supplies for Local Students

Both the Chesapeake and Holland Road Offices collected school supplies for local Hampton Roads students.  It’s a great way for our agents to stay connected in the community and give back.  According to DoSomething.org, 40% of children who live below the poverty line are not ready for primary education.  Donating supplies is one way to help bridge the gap.

The Holland Road office helped the Buffalow Family/Friends Community Days – this is a grassroots organization which collected school supplies for 750 children in the South Norfolk community. The office got involved with assistance from Pamela Laurens, REALTOR® of The PerfectHouse Team.  This was the fourth year for the supply drive which included a picnic and community outreach.

The Chesapeake Office held its annual Fill-the-Backpack program for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students at Carver Intermediate in Chesapeake.  This year the office was able to donate 55 filled book bags for these students.

“Most students will admit that there is a great deal of apprehension on the first day of school each and every year. All eyes and ears of the people that love you see this as your opportunity to grow and become a self-sufficient adult so there is a self-made pressure that automatically accompanies the first day of school from family and friends. Unfortunately, there are many students who are unable to come to school the first day without all the required supplies and therefore they are even more stigmatized than any other day of the school year. Some of those students do not attend the first day because of the peer pressure,” said Chesapeake Office’s Managing Broker Karen Gaskins.
